One further point which has not been addressed adequately is that there are (or can be) two distinct geometries at work in an optimized LENR active zone, which are an order of magnitude different in scale.
And it could very well be the case that optimized LENR demands both: the Casimir cavity itself which is in the range of 2-10 nm (and can be called a 'defect' or fracture zone); and the other being the surrounding matrix metal, with its interstitial cavity "pores" within the solid FCC crystal. I recall seeing a paper by Mitchell Swartz where he mentions something to this effect as being a necessary precondition, IIRC. Fran: The plate geometry has an equal and opposite "pressure" like giant sails that accumulate this pressure while the cavity represents a small tear that lets the increased pressure create a venturi..the "wind speed" if you will can exceed the nominal value of open space, and the hole is not big enough to exhaust the accumulated pressure. I think this description works more accurately if you describe something like a smaller cavity feeding a larger cavity in a back and forth sequential pulsation. Palladium is FCC at ~390 pm. Pd atom radius is ~137 pm. This leaves a cavity of up to ~120 pm diameter, as best I can tell. Since the power law is cubic, the effective space difference between the matrix cavity and the Casimir cavity is a ratio of at least 1000:1 if my assumptions are correct. One can imagine a very large "ZPE wind speed" pulsing atoms back and forth. On every pulse, several hundred atoms may move in-and-out. Metaphorically, they may 'breath in' ZPE in order to reduce the stress of this rapid kinetic transfer. The frequency of the lattice is in the terahertz range, based on blackbody assumptions, and if the average distance traveled were known, then the start-stop speed could be modeled. Because the frequency is very high, the rate of acceleration must also be at a power law over normal expectation, which is what we have called "jerk" or "jounce" in the past (see the snippet at the end). This would indicate, or at least be consistent with, some kind of time-dilation between the local scale and that of the viewer. Fran: Since we are talking relativistic time dilation here the radius is not affected locally at all - time is what changes and with it obviously anything based on time like gravity. Speaking of gravity, and its normal weakness on a large scale, this brings back the recurrent notion of "Unification" of the forces at small geometry; and perhaps . if this can happen due at pm geometry along with a forced higher power law of motion (above acceleration) . with all of this, we could be approaching a clearer picture or the M.O. of how ZPE is necessary for LENR. Which should be a breath of fresh air for Puthoff . Jones On Vortex, we have been accustomed to calling this first higher order acceleration "jerk." But then again, we share the respect in the fizzix establishment that the Jamaican Bobsled Team gets in sports ... along with a taste for spicy fast food (aka 'jerk':) I think the point about 'jerk' being an exponential increase could be moving towards the key that pushes any system towards a usable energy anomaly. IOW - why stop with jerk, if you want to fly-high, mon ? dL/dT ......VELOCITY d2L/dT2 ....ACCELERATION d3L/dt3 ....JERK d4L/dT4 ....JOUNCE This last requires in effect four axes of spin, OR three of spin and one of time (or lack thereof) ! Query: Does 'jounce effect' eliminate the "arrow of time" which is presumably the M.O. of "The Machine" and Dr. Ellie Arroway !?! (for the flick-challenged, that would be Jodie-Jounce, in her 'Contact' time machine, which was spinning on four axes).
