Yeah, some might think like that, but it would require, pretty much,
that the local police were involved in the cover-up. Setting up some
fall guys, who will then have attorneys defending them, who might not
be totally stupid, is not the best way to cover something up.
And this late? I don't think so! There is no massive belief that this
was something related to cold fusion, so that the conspirators would
think, "We'd better set someone up!"
The couple have small children now. Again, that will create support
for them, if the evidence isn't crystal clear. These are not the
people I'd choose! You'd want to choose one person, someone who would
not arouse sympathy, who would not be able to gather significant
support, like family and friends in the community, which one starts
to gain with children.
I suspect drug crime as well. We don't know what the woman did, she
might simply have given her boyfriend refuge or helped him after the
fact. Or she was directly involved, it hasn't been revealed.
