Neutron detectors may also be sensitive to Hydrinos through enhanced electron capture (something which I suggested on this forum years ago). IOW they may have been detecting Hydrinos, not neutrons. Fe can be a Mills catalyst. (But then I think Li can be too, and certainly O++ which could exist in an ultrasound induced bubble of plasma).
