The boron carbide slurry I suggested is an incredibly bad idea! The
high melting temperature is indeed useful, but carbon is a moderator
- just what is *not* needed.
A high boric acid content slurry, possibly using gravel, or even
sand, as has been reported planned, should indeed be sufficient to
hold things in place even if the cladding disintegrates. This would
allow later dismantling of the material, as was done at Three Mile
Island. A high boric acid concrete would also clearly work to hold
things in place, but would be a more permanent end, and would
preclude further cooling.
