There is an interesting evolution of believers' assertions as a phenomenon becomes less credible. (Remember the skeptics evolution as a phenomenon is proved: 1. It's not true; 2. It may be true, but not important. 3. It's true and important, but we have always known it.) Here's the believers' progression: 1. The experiment proves it's true. 2. OK. Maybe it's not proved, but the experiment gives good evidence for it. 3. The experiment provides no evidence that it's true, but no one ever said it did. But we still know it's true, because we want it to be.
