"Mostly likely"? No .... "is." Or just trolling from someone out for the lulz.
In this day and age, if you don't know how to recognize this blatant
a phishing expedition, just send me all your money. I'll take better
care of it than you would. Or, if you don't trust me, just walk down
the street in a very bad neighborhood with your wallet hanging out
and visible cash in it.
The list moderator will, I assume, nuke the subscriptoin from which
this came. For all of my mailing lists, I've gone to moderation of
subscriptions, and demand some kind of statement from the subscriber
that they have a clue as to what the list is about, I don't accept
generic comments like "Nice list! Please subscribe me!"
It does introduce a small delay, and a small amount of work. But
almost no spam in many years. What there is comes from subscribers'
computers being hacked. Not a lot.
I have multiple moderators on my lists, usually, so mostly I don't
even have to personally approve subscriptions.
One problem here is that the spammer/phisher gets the direct email
address of all of us who have posted to this list during the spammer
subscription period. That will increase spam and risk to all of us, a
little. I already get about 500 spams per day, so it's not a big
issue for me, but for some....
