Even though all this talk about backing up and Zip disks, etc.,
may appear OT, (not to you, Ian) I think that if we do not,
occasionally go through a complete discussion of backing up our
stuff, we are doing each other and ourselves, a disservice. By
comparing notes, here, we can determine what the best way is to
maintain our system, once we have installed and are using programs,
such as V.
Ian, I am very, very glad you told all how you do your backup.
I wonder how many Amigans realize that even though the Squirrel
says it is a SCSI hard drive controller, it should not be mistaken
for an internal fixed hard disk drive, nor any drive run off a SCSI
card insered into the belly of the A1200? The only other Amigans
who might appreciate what you have to do are those who use the
A600. Why? These are the only two Amigas with built-in PCMCIA
buses. The Squirrel operates through the PCMCIA bus, therefore,
any disk drive, attached to it, is not directly connected to the
Amiga's OS, unlike a disk drive attached to a SCSI card in the
belly of the computer (either opening and insering inside the com-
puter, or, through the "trap door") which is directly connect to
the system's OS. The result: you *must* use a floppy first, before
the hard drive can be accessed.
Anyway, if anyone needs details, they should either speak or
write to someone who uses an A1200 or A600.
'til next time.
Julian.
