I'd suggest security + bugfixes for 2.4 and new devel
on 2.6. It seems that 2.6 is much better
than 2.4 was at his release.

A vserver's data directories of should be useable,
the configuration can be converted in forehand.
I don't use unification, but many other do.

Had no time to try the 2.6 0.06 release.
