tcl is a development tool used to design GUIs and to program Tcl. I am a new programmer to Tcl.  Based on what I have done, I would suggest that you: 1. Download ActiveTcl8.3.4  This contains Tcl,Tk and several other libraries http://tcl.activestate.com/ 2.  Download vTcl http://vtcl.sourceforge.net/ 3.  Get a copy of Tcl/Tk Reference Guide.  You can download it for free on the web.  http://www.slac.stanford.edu/~raines/tkref.html O'reily publishers also sells a printed version for about $10 US. 1-56592-498-3  O'Reilly & Associates 1565924983  11/98  (I think!) For now, I have been doing all my development in vTcl.  There are some bugs and problems, but so far, I have not needed to use anything else. For me, it has not been necessary to understand the relationship between Tk, BLT, tix or any of the other packages.  You only need to include references the ones you need in your program.
