Hi - this is bill Hamilton Darin, I live near Bainbridge Island & have been
doing quite well on the South end of the island for the resident coho from
the beach. The amphipod pattern that Leland & I et.al. have been using is
the Bruce Ferguson's "nothing pattern" that he developed some 20 years ago.
Bruce's pattern is just white polar bear hair on a size 6 or 8 hook. I've
been putting a small black conehead with some pink crystal flash ( the
actual animal is about 1/4" long) & the overall fly length is about 1/2 inch
(looks like a cluster). We use a clear intermediate line (or a floater in
shallower water) & a 8 to 10 foot leader- I like fluorocarbon a lot to 2 or
3x. Leland puts small dumbell eyes on his (doesn't fish as well) & works
OK- I like a little weight on the fly just to improve your fly to rod
connection. Write to me directly for specifics on the Bainbridge location
I don't want Richard Embry or Leland to know) Bill
