Justin,

I think the reason Kaufmanns doesn't carry Okuma's is clear; they would cut
into the sales of their higher priced reels which offer them a much higher
margin. They definitely will handle Steelhead and Coho and although I
haven't tried it I'll bet they would handle tuna. They are not as good a
reel as a Ross but they are a great value. As far as I'm concerned the fish
never know and I'm not going to tell them.

I am a big fan of St. Croix. I think most high end rods are over priced for
what you get. Not so with St. Croix. Can you tell the difference between
fishing with a St. Croix Ultra rod with an Okuma reel and a rod and reel
that cost 2 to 3 times that. Yes, but the difference is negligible in my
opinion. Will you catch more and bigger fish with the high end
combination - no way.

Subject: Okuma Sierra Reels and St. Croix rods

I took my friend to Kauffman's today to look at reels. They had the
Pflueger at low end then from there they jumped right to the ross Cimmaron.
So the cost range was from $39.00 to $150.00 (exact prices i can't recall).
Anyway, I asked about the Okuma Sierra and they said no way. I wanted to
check one out because I know many of you online have said good things about
the reels. A few Questions:

Can these reels stand up to Steelhead and Coho Salmon? Is it an actual Disk
Drag?
Why are they so inexpensive?

I also remember someone online said they could get them for $28.00 Can you
pass on that price to the rest of us? If so I'll Buy a few from you (3-5)

I also read an something from a custom rod Builder. His opinion is that St.
Croix will be right up there with sage or even surpass them in the near
future. I think I'm gonna have one made up and see what all the fuss is.
All I've heard is great things about St. Croix. The website to the guy who
makes them is.. www.performanceflyrods.com

Has anyone had the chance to pick up a sage cast it then pick up an upper
end St. Croix and been able to tell the difference?

Your info. would be greatly appreciated
