I'd rather know where to get crawdads! Had a lake near Fall City once and
was doing really well until somebody stole my pots! Almost too easy, in the
good 'ol days, to catch summer-run steelies on them. There's a
pattern,(darn, can't think of the name!) that has splayed, buck tail aft,
body and pheasant rump layers over the top that is fished on a sink tip and
wobbles and the head drops lower than the tails when fished across a
steelhead drift. I tied some up for trout, but never used them. It would
be hard to fish a pattern that acts like a crawdad in my opinion. They stay
behind rocks and scoot along the bottom once in awhile. A big wooly bugger
has been suggested that it can be taken for a crawfish. How do you fish a
snail pattern? Fish often have snails in their stomachs. I have a very
nice crawdad pattern tied by Janet Schimpf, a very good Seattle area tier.
Wear it on the lapel of my sport coat. She tied them for Koffman's at one
time and they told me the same thing....most anglers buy them to wear. Jere
