I was in a local fly shop yesterday morning and a crawdad pattern was highly
recommended by a long time Amber Lake angler. Of all the flies that have
been working well on the lake I was surprised by his suggestion. He said
fish it deep using short strips. In previous years, he's had great success
fishing it near the rock slides on the north end of the lake. I've read
crawdads are a favorite trout food so it might be worth a try.
