Been a busy last couple weeks at work so i decided to take a personal day and check
out how the Narrows is doing. Arrived around 10:30 and was on the water by 11am .
When I went to put on a fly I realized i forgot to switch out my trout flies for the
saltwater flies before I left home. Knowing the fish were not going to hit on a
chromie I started to get depressed but fortunately I happened to have two of Lelands
poppers in one of my fly boxes and that was going to have to do. Knowing my skill of
busting up flies on rocks I was worried this was going to be a short day.
I headed down past Pt. Fosdick and worked my way back. On my first cast I hooked into
a well conditioned 17 inch sea-run cutt. He out on an aerial display and fought hard
for a good couple of minutes. I released him and proceeded to catch his twin about 30
minutes later. After that I had maybe another half dozen rises but no hook ups.
I didnt see a coho all day which was odd. It looked like all of the fish rising to the
poppper were sea-runs. I expected to at least see some working. All in all it was a
good day and fishing the popper is a ton of fun. I really had not fished it all that
much until today. Nothing like seeing a sea-run do a belly flop on your fly in less
than 2 feet of water.
Had to leave around 2 to beat the traffic but will be back this weekend for some more .
