More experienced than Leland and Les
Johnson?!! How many times out does it take? There are wide ranges of
expertise on this thread now. I really enjoyed Andy's report. It
indicates, to me, that Andy is adept at recognizing what is going on, at a
particular time, through observation, that takes time and experience that we all
strive for and we hopefully, don't always get it right, either. That is
what makes it so exciting. My fish can be in the riffle tomorrow, but the
dynamics can change and if you charge out, expecting the same conditions to
exist without observing what is going on, you often fail. It is very hard,
to take the time to look around and observe, and size up what is going on,
without thrashing the water from the onset. My frustration, in the last
year, or two, has been the inability to solve the emerger feeding and my excuse
has been that I don't like to use a "dry and a dropper" and that is why others
have caught fish and not me. That has been very challenging to me and I
continue to try to recognize the emerger feeding and get it right using one
fly. Jere
