Jere, I know Outdoor Emporium well as I worked many years in that big red brick building on Fairview & Valley. The bad part about the move is that Mike, one of the buyers, told me that they most likely will be going to the southend so that lets me out as I live in Edmonds.
Did you ever fish Oyster River just to the south of Campbell? That use to be a great place to bucktail for silvers in very shallow water, such fun, that was in the late 60's Dan

You can get a selection of the Canadian mooching rod at Outdoor Emporium inSeattle. They carry Shimano single action mooching reels and Shimanomooching rods. Outdoor Emporium is located at Pontius and Republican inSeattle, but soon to be getting the boot in the great South Lake Unionredevelopment cum Seattle Commons Diaspora because Paul Allen has a specialinterest in that area and has purchased their building. For now, it isstill the Fishing Temple I bow to every morning.Mooching rods are also available just across the border in Surry, BC atBerry's Bait and Tackle. Their web address is: berrysbait.com. Moochingrods come in mostly 10.5 ft lengths, some are longer, and they come w/different actions: very limber w/ a full bend to a more tippy action. Ihave fished these rods and the center pin or "single action" Shimano reelfor 15 years and they are a lot of fun. Berry's also sells a selection ofcenter pin casting reels for steelhead and salmon fishing w/ floats, also alot of fun.I started fishing circle hooks last year during the sockeye fishery usingjust the circle hook on a leader behind the flasher thinking it would helpland more soft mouthed sockeye. I am not sure I proved that theory, but welanded lots of fish and the rod w/ the Gamakatsu circle hook leader was notout produced by the regular Gamakatsu hook and the numbers landed were aboutequal.DanPS: I do remember reading an article years ago about Zane Grey fishing atCampbell River and his attempts to get into the double tyee club: catchinga 60 pound Chinook. I can't remember if he had success. And, if my agingmemory serves me, Linc's Fishing tackle and Honda used to carry an updatedstainless version of the Winona reel made locally, even.-----Original Message-----From: Jere Crosby [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Monday, July 16, 2001 6:47 AMSubject: Re: "Mooching" for Salmon out of BerkleyAh, 30 lbs, not 50..now you know my divisible factor when I refer to fishsize.....and I remember now; you can only use artificials, not bait toqualify for the Tyee Club. Quite nostalgic. I spent some time in acquiringa 10 1/2 ft. mooching rod like I used in Cambell River. We caught primarilysilvers, when I was there, but it was extremely fun. We used the singleaction reels, 1-2 oz.'s of lead as Preston described and those long, graphite rods and long leaders. I purchased a single action reel when Ireturned to the states, but could not get a comparable rod. Diawa made arod for the States and marketed the long rod for Canada and you couldn't getthe long rod here in the states. I wrote to Diawa of Canada and they sentme two of the long rods.
