Almost toooo much to feedback on concerning rods...depends on what type of
fishing they will be doing. I am finding out that there are lots of inex.
rods out there now, that when you pick them up, they can throw incredible
lengths of lines....and they are dressed nicely. Many of the inex. rods do
not make a line wt. less than 6wt. I use them, usually using no less than a
4x tippet on #14 hooks and larger. They fish fine. However, when you blend
casting with another important component, FISHING.. the better rod makers
take over.(in lesser wts.) A 3wt, or 4wt., which many anglers often employ
now, are made by the better, more expensive, rod makers. The other question
is warranty....not sure how many, inex blanks especially, blank makers will
warranty a blank made by someone else. At best, YOU have to dress it again.
One major fault, I have found, by those dressing a blank, is they wrap the
guide wrappings too tight. When color preserver is applied, the wraps
shrink further onto the blank. The guide foot does not flex, but the blank
does. The guide foot ends up fracturing the blank. All this has too be
taken into account. Often, beginning anglers are, and unknowingly
sometimes, hard on their equipment...(ie) frustrated hung up in the bushes
etc. and go through several rods before they change their ways. If I was to
make up a rod for a novice, with a tight budget, I'd make them up a 6wt,
with a less expensive blank like you are searching for, give them a quick
lesson on rod care, and suggest bigger flies on stronger tippets, looking
for a medium, fast action blank, as most of those inex. blanks are. Jere
(and a medium, fast action, is a nice action in any blank)
