Just got back from a couple of weeks fishing in the Glenwood Springs area of
Colorado - mediocre fishing at best (the summer doldrums don't you know) but
still a great time.

So far as the rod recommendation goes I would have to agree completely with
Richard on his take on the St. Croix SCIV (aka Ultra.) I have built many
rods with Pac Bay and Loomis blanks in the past. I am now building rods
almost exclusively on the St. Croix SCIV blanks. I have recently gone to
the Hopkins and Holloway DLC (diamond like carbide) single foot guides and
Bellinger reel seats. I think the result is an excellent rod that is the
best bang for the buck going.

regards,

Keith Bell

Subject: Pac Bay rods

A couple of friends would like me to build them a fly rod later this Summer
and they don't have a huge budget to work with. I recall that I have heard
great things about Pac Bay rod blanks but have not had the opportunity to
fish one. How do they compare to other brands in their price range ($65 for
a 9' 5 wt.)? Other brands I am considering using are Reddington and St.
Croix so any A/B comparisons would be great. I am looking for feedback
about
casting power and presentation, durability and warrenty etc.
