The only reason I can come up with is that they're steelhead. And 
steelhead do what steelhead do.

It doesn't matter what the counts over the dams are, they're a fish 
that at any given time will ignore your best offering. I caught my 
first Clearwater steelie August 3 and did not touch another one until 
last Sunday, while in years past, when the counts were lower, I have 
done much better.

The slump I'm in only makes every steelhead I catch even more memorable.
