I heard a local guide who lives in Rockport cleared the sweeper in the
lower Sauk. He also warned that the lower Sauk has some dangerous water in
it now. The last few years this has been the easiest stretch to row but
that has changed. I agree that the stretch from the mill to the Suiattle
is probably the most dangerous water. It also braids out quite a few times
and it would take several trips down to cover all the channels. The run
from the Suiattle down to the Gov't(lower bridge) doesn't change as much
and is pretty wide open. The are a couple of chutes that are exciting,
especially at low water. Also, on the upper run, when floating past the
mouth of the Suiattle, stay as far left and away from it as you can. My
brother and I didn't a few years ago and if we weren't in his self bailing
white water raft I think we would have capsized. Never under estimate the
Sauk and don't get complacent on the oars.
