for the suggestion! My previous attempts at epoxy as shell back on small
patterns have met with abysmal failure, so I have not spent a lot of time plying
with them (usually lumpy/uneven.) I will have to make some additional stabs at
it...

Give this weapon a try:
Hook: TMC 200 size 18 or 20
Tail: Mallard flank dyed olive
Body: Olive Haretron with an additional 20 % mixture of light olive antron added tied using the split thread method.
Shellback: Peacock Krystal Flash tied flat (not in the ravelled position). Coat shellback with a light coat of epoxy with a small touch of fine silver glitter added.
If you need additional weight, wrap fine copper wire on the hook shank before tying in.
This pattern has been very deadly for me...
