The only time I've used propeller flies was a couple of years ago down on the Columbia below Bonneville during the shad run. They were supposed to be the ticket, but I didn't do too well.
I love this sort of thread, though, because it shows so clearly the seriousness with which we take fly fishing, and the light heartedness under that. Was it Robert Traver who said something like, "The reason I love fly fishing is not that it is so important, but that it shows me nothing else is." I've probably got both the quote and its author wrong, but I share the sentiment.
