I got out fishing for the first time this season. I went to Rocky Ford yesterday. I will have to buy a float tube so that the lakes are an option.
The Ford fished pretty good or at least not bad for a cloudless sky. People would hook up every 1/2 hr or so. The wind wasn't too bad. There was no really dry fly activity. I nymphed the day with midges under a very small strike indicator. I got most of my strikes by first spotting the fish to cast to during the lulls between wind gusts and then casting when the wind started blowing. I think that the wind hides the fly line and indicator somewhat. I walked downstream and saw people fishing a narrow channel/creek that looked like it was full of spawning rainbows. At least that's what I thought from looking at the water. I had never walked down that far. It was 18" deep and full of 24" fish. Does anyone know if those fish stay there all season? It didn't seem as if there was much cover for them. Do they run up the creek to spawn from the Lake? I didn't fish over these guys. It hardly seemed sporting. I could have easily jumped on top of the fish as cast to it. A pitchfork would have been more effective. Andy S.
