MessageFor me a couple of tips that worked out well:
1) hold your scissors in your hand while you're tying (never put them down).
2) if tying several flies of the same size and style, tie them in steps. For example, if tying Clousers, tie all the eyes in first, then come back and tie the balance of the materials in.
3) Once you reach the age of 40, buy factory flies for anything under size 16. :-)

From my experience, the most important way to speed up tying is to make the minimum number of wraps that will do the job. 4 wraps takes twice as long as 2 wraps. Try it.
After that it is all about organization. All the pieces have to flow from the bench to the fly with nothing in between.
Always have fun tying.....

Subject: fly tying
I am hoping to get advice on how to speed up my fly tying. I have been tying my own flies for about four years. I recently began tying for a couple of friends and noticed how long it takes me to get through a dozen. Does anyone have basic suggestions or tips?
Thanks, Brian
