My buddy and I drove to Lenice early saturday morning. We decided to give merry a try, as I did well there in March and I figured that the fish have seen less pressure over the summer. We made the arduous trek to merry with my pram and his pontoon. I tried a number of flies, but caught no fish. I saw some fish, but expected to find many more in the shallows. I have to wonder if the fish move out of Merry during the hot summer because of shallow water. ????
On sunday we woke up to a couple of inches of snow, slogged over to merry, and dragged our boats to lenice. I had about five or six strikes on a fast stripped wooly bugger, and then nada. The east end of Lenice is very interesting---lots of shallows with relatively deep water nearby. I never knew how big that lake was. Tried blood worms on east end but nada. I rowed down to the inlet of the lake on the West end. Caught 3 rainbows and one brown in the current on the dead drifted bloodworm and the chromie. Lots of water flowing through the system. The 19" brown had a rainbow of approximatey 5 inches hanging out of its throat. Cool! The lake was cold and lonely, and the fishing was mediocre. No car prowls. We had a good time.
