Oh, one thing I should mention about that spot... it's really better to go around rather than up the Rock Cr road.  My buddy Jeff and I dubbed that road the "brain rattler" - one of the worst roads I've had the experience of driving and it's supposedly impossible to pull a trailer all the way up it.

There's a back way to upper Rock Cr - you go further East on I-90 and turn to the South.  I don't recall the name but easy to find on a map.

Have fun.

Thanks for your advice. I spoke with the guy at Rock Creek Merc today and he feels the lower section of the river should be down fine by the time I'm there, so maybe we'll head that way. I'll have to think about this spot you've mentioned.

Cliff

Just my 2-cents re Rock Creek.

My favorite area is the stretch just below the forks (don't recall that bridge name).  It seeems like every time I've fished it I've had 20-fish-plus afternoons there.  I'm always amazed at how well that river grows cutts and browns.  Even if the flows are up a bit on the lower river I would expect that the wading/fishing opportunities on the upper river would be good.  The caddis hatches are awesome - but my favorite trip there was in August when I got to throw a hopper most of the day.  Nice, river-strong browns on a dry fly, does it get any bettter?

Hello there,

Saw a post in the last couple of days about Montana fishing which mentioned that Rock Creek was running a little high. Does anyone know if that's still the case? I'll be over there (north of Missoula) next week and I was thinking about trying Rock Creek or the Little Blackfoot. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Cliff
