don't think I have any secrets- I do use a nor-vise - I have both styles; & can't remember ever breaking a hook in the vise- & I do go down to size 20 (under duress) it seems funny to break them 'cause the 9761 is 2x heavy. the theory that the hook gets caught in the groove for the larger hook makes sense to me. not much help eh? bill
