Hiya, I don't know anything about how the picture quality compares with other scanners, but there is one thing that I love about my Canon 650U...
It doesn't have a power supply.... it gets its power via USB. The lack of cumbersome power supply means I can move it anywhere, to any Mac, anytime, without any hassles. Rather than take up a heap of desk space, it sits in a cupboard most of the time. I just plug in the scanner, and scan. No restarts, no hassles.
