PC resellers will generally stock what is politely referred to as OEM
RAM.
"Generic" - read, it might be OK for an office desktop but don't expect
it to work reliably or anything silly like that...

They'll stock "generic" and decent RAM, yes, but I've never seen that
much of a price difference. At least the retail prices seem to be ~30%
higher - quite reasonable in my book - for name-brand quality RAM.
Perhaps they mark up the "generic" stuff a revolting amount -
nonetheless, the end price difference seems pretty reasonable.

grade RAM usually comes with a lfetime warranty and will be RAM from
Hynix (Hyundai), Toshiba, etc.
Indeed. Those prices I mentioned earlier were for Hyundai RAM. I've
noticed "generic" RAM disappearing slowly from better PC retailers as
well - no doubt for the same reasons you won't touch the stuff.
Nonetheless, some people will always insist on buying the "$5 cheaper,
1/2 the quality" model :-(
