Don't let it get to you !
Look under Finder - Perferences - Sidebar and check whther you have a
tick against " removeable Media "
Removing the tick from mine removes the flash drive from the Finder.

Even though what you have done worked (and will likely give you no
probs), for mine I would prefer that the Mac formatted the disk.
I say this as I have seen this drama before. A Mac didnt like a disk
until *it* formatted the disk.
It is still fine months later on windows and mac.
I didnt mention this before as you still had files on your drive...

PS. Any uber-geeks know what might be the prob here, everything checks
