Repairing preferences didn't work. Just inserting it in a windows

Grrr!! But now at least it shows up on the desktop on my mac (tho'
not in finder!) Why not?

Rosemary,
Don't let it get to you !
Look under Finder - Perferences - Sidebar and check whther you have
a tick against " removeable Media "
Removing the tick from mine removes the flash drive from the Finder.
Have fun

Hi Rosemary
Even though what you have done worked (and will likely give you no
probs), for mine I would prefer that the Mac formatted the disk.
In the interests of knowing for the next time :
Connect your flash drive to the mac,
Go Applications - Utilities - Disk Uitilty and open disk utility
Disk utility collects info on all your drives
Click on the Flash Drive
Window opens and you will see First Aid , Erase, Restore.
Click on Erase ( Nothing happens yet )
Now look at Volume format ... Click and hold on the arrows to see the
full range of choices.
If you wanted to reformat... you would now select the Format
and Click on the Erase at the BOTTOM of the screen.
Check it now so you know for the next time.
Have fun
Bob
