Hi Dave,

I am currently running 10.3.8 and possibly encountered the same problem as
yours when I downloaded the very latest security up-date last week.
Initially the update seemed to work fine, but on rebooting the machine the
following day (I Shut Down after each session) I would encounter a Kernel
Panic.

Usually after rebooting as per the dialogue box message, the computer would
work perfectly well, but would encounter another possible Kernel Panic on
booting up. This seemed to happen haphazardly and only at boot-up.

Not wanting to archive and restore, I went through the following:

- Ran all the CRON scripts - ie daily, weekly and monthly. Must add that I
run these scripts using either Yasu or MacJanitor without fail on their
scheduled times - ie daily, weekly and monthly.
- Zapped the PRAM. (That was the first time I did it on the current machine,
G5 dual 1.8Ghz)
- Ran Disk Warrior and also Disk Utility

For some reason, it is now 4 days since doing the above and I have not
encountered a Kernel Panic since then, fingers crossed!

Speaking to Peter Hinchliffe at last WAMUG meeting, he did advise me to
ensure that no Firewire or USB devices were plugged-in when doing an update.
I'll be doing this next time, although I usually only have one active USB
device, Iomega Zip, plugged into a USB2 4-port hub and no firewire device/s.

Hope this does make sense.

Regards,

Philippe
