Digital cameras

Disaster has befallen the expedition, we have dropped the Ixus digital 
camera and 'is caput', i am sure it is repairable but we want one now, 
Has any one any views on a 4-5 megapixl camera mac friendly and in the 
$500-750 range or even out of range by a bit :-(.
