DiskWorrier restored all icons except for Home and did nothing for
the Mail situation. Is there any particular explanation for this
happening?
I reinstated the mail account OK, and I can see the mail boxes in
the Home Library but have been unable to recover them using Mailbox
Rebuild, I presume the messages are still in them nor can I recover
the addresses.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Are you sure the machine is still logging in as the same user?
