Hi Glen,

Interesting what you say about 10.3.9. I never had any problems with it & I have it running on another G4 iBook with no problems at all. Yes, I agree & have done other upgrades with backing up the old HD to a External Firewire Drive, then clean Install & use Migration Assistant very successfully.
I guess it's a matter of preference.

Cheers,
Ronni

Sorry Ronda but I would not go 10.3.9... ( I feel it wawas a bit like the 10.2.7 update... To much grief)... Archive it two thumbs up... However I have to say the easist way I have had is when I have had the old system drive separate and then done a clean install and used tigers user migration
tools has worked an absolute treat both times...

But always back-up your user folder first... Otherwise you are asking for
trouble

Hi Muggers

Can anyone tell me which is the best way to upgrade to tiger. Im
using a G5 dual 2ghz machine with 10.3.8. I checked the apple
website and they dont actually say which of the three ways works
the best. Does it matter?

I dont want to lose all my info in mail, internet and cable
connection so am not into a complete install. Im wondering whether
to do a 'simple upgrade' or an 'archive and install'. I assume
after the install I run the 10.4.2 updater?

Hi Chris,

Archive & Install is the safest way to go.
I always repair permissions before & after any upgrades. I would
update to 10.3.9 first also, but that is just my way.

Be sure to select the "Preserve User and Network Settings" option to
preserve your current Users folder and related network configuration.

This Site explains in detail Archive & Install.

When Microsoft asks you, "Where do you want to go today?" Tell them,
"Apple!"
