Hi muggers

Thanks heaps from all who gave advice. I have gone the archive and install route on my main HD and a clean install on the internal backup drive. I took the advice and disconnected all external devices too. Both have worked a treat after immediately doing the upgrades to 10.4.2, however I did have a glitch while selecting the startup drive back to the main drive - the computer just sat there with the little cog spinning for a few hours, after which I had to turn it off then start it up. It seems ok since then?

I have copied all my important data to the backup so both are now accessible for a startup drive on my G5. All I have to do now is learn the guts of tiger.

Many thanks to the great mac people of wamug. I really appreciate your help

kind regards

chris

It's unlikely that this issue will effect you but I'll just warn you that Tiger completely breaks emailed calendar events. If you have alot of important meetings that are arranged with .ics files then upgrading to Tiger can be very annoying.

The benefits do outweigh the negatives though.
