I do not know whether it is because I am getting old or because I am short of grey matter (Betz cell concentration) but when ever I try to use the help files I do not come up with the answer. :- ( I am about to transfer my mail onto a NEW powerbook G4 :-) so i thought I would 'archive', 'compress', 'store', 'retire' my current mailbox. Try feeding that into help and you get F... A.. Help. I am aware that all I need to do is ask the ever helpful gurus on the net and the answer will be forth coming in the click of a mouse button. But seriously folks why does Mail help point me in the right direction?

BTW how do I archive old mail?

All your mail files are kept inside ~/Library/Mail (the 'tilde' (~) character refers to your Home Folder, so start there). You can archive this entire folder in whichever way you see fit.

BTW - why are you not using the wonderful migration assistant built into Tiger? It takes all the worry out of transferring old data to a new Mac.

Hi Mac,

I'm 'hoping' to be in the same position as you very soon :-)

Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4: Transferring data with Setup Assistant / Migration Assistant FAQ Learn how some versions of Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant (included with Mac OS X 10.4 or later, in the Utilities folder) can easily transfer data from a previous Mac to a new one. This document applies to Mac OS X 10.4 and computers that ship with Mac OS X 10.3.4 or later, such as Power Mac G5 (June 2004) computers. Setup/Migration Assistant on these computers includes a data migration feature. The data copied by the Assistant is not deleted from your previous Mac.
