Optus ADSL problem

I have just connected to Optus ADSL. They say that they don't support 
Macs but that "Macs are very easy to set up" and that they work on the 
Optus system.
A PC has been connected via the DSL modem USB port and  my eMac 
connected through the ethernet port. The PC works fine but on the Mac I 
always get the message "Could not find a PPPoE server".
Has any one on the list had this problem and what is the answer??
