The problem is that your mac is looking for a PPPoE server. AFAIK the
modems Optus distribute (DSL-302G) have a full PPPoE and NAT
implementation built in so all you need to do is set your mac to use
a direct TCP/IP connection.
The solution? On your networking preferences go to the PPPoE tab and
disable PPPoE. Then go back to the TCP/IP tab, set everything to
DHCP, renew the lease if nothing is showing up under IP address.
This should allow everything to work.

I have just connected to Optus ADSL. They say that they don't
support Macs but that "Macs are very easy to set up" and that they
work on the Optus system.
A PC has been connected via the DSL modem USB port and my eMac
connected through the ethernet port. The PC works fine but on the
Mac I always get the message "Could not find a PPPoE server".
Has any one on the list had this problem and what is the answer??
Thanks,.
