happen under Panther & Tiger.
The fix both times has been to disconnect the FireWire devices,
log in to Open Firmware,
and at the prompt type "reset-nvram", then reboot.
After booting up, I've reconnected my FireWire devices
to have them work perfectly.
(I believe I originally found this fix on Apple's support pages
probably 2 years ago.)
