G'day folks,
I have a G4 ibook that has all of a sudden lost both USB ports.
Everything was working fine and then all of sudden both of them are
dead as a doornail... I suspect the better half has been a little
heavy handed when disconnecting the USB keyboard however...
.... the local Mac place quoted me $1200 for a new motherboard!!!!..
So now I face the dilemma of buying a new imac/book for a few hundred
dollars more and then keeping the ibook as a non-usb 'puter..
Anyone else found a different fault that may not require a new
motherboard?
HI Andrew!
Try booting off a CD and see if your ports show up. If not, its pretty
much all bads news from here.
And a tip for new laptop buyers - get AppleCare within the first year of
purchase! I know people that have broken laptops don't want to hear
that tired old record, but in this case the Applecare would have paid
for itself 3 times over.
In saying that Andrew, it might be cheaper for you to trade in the iBook
and buy a new one. If you can get $500-odd dollars as a trade in, a new
one will only cost you a grand (the lower spec one). Cheaper than a new
board. If it is a 14" iBook, then it would be cheaper to repair.
