FYI, you can try this to see if this will fix the usb ports. hmm... I wonder if I could open up a repair shop and get $600 for this?
I would reset the pram. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238 If that doesn't work I would try reseting the pmu. This problem is not unheard of with firewire, and I'm guessing this is probably your problem.
