Hi Ronni, John & other WAMUG members, Many thanks for the suggestions. I did download the virus def files as John suggested, and also tried Ronni's solution. Unfortunately with my version of Virex 7.5.1 I just could not chose FTP. I could see it but it was 'greyed' out, hence unavailable.
I sent an email to Westnet, my ISP, who within 10 minutes called me on the telephone and advised me that there was a setup item which needed to be done on the NetComm modem/router. On the Setup page and PPPoE setup I needed to enable 'Enforce MTU'. Once this done I could access my .mac, and what's more Virex could also access the eUpdate server. Problem solved! You would think. However for some reason I just cannot save this setting to the modem. Clicking the apply button simply resulted in a blank page on the browser, and if I switched off the modem, this particular setting was not saved and had to be reset prior to checking my mail. It looks like the browser could not, for reason unknown to me, get the modem to save this particular setting. I tried this with not only Safari, but also FireFox with the same negative result. Currently I am left with two options: - Leave the modem on permanently. Which I do not particularly want to do seeing it is a WiFi one - Reset the modem just prior to checking my .mac account Wonder if anyone with some knowledge of NetComm NB5Plus4W can provide some suggestions.
