Severin, I'd second Brian's suggestion for a number of other reasons as
well. :-)

If a major priority is to transfer video footage to your Mac, an EyeTV unit
would certainly be the fastest, easiest and most flexible way to achieve
this. We went through 2 different models of digital TV HDD recorders before
giving up on them and going for the EyeTV solution and couldn't be happier
as a few of my WAMUG posts over the last year or so will attest. :-)

An EyeTV solution would also probably be the cheapest option if you already
have at least a 500MHz G4 Mac or so. An EyeTV and a nice big external
Firewire hard disk can be had for under Aus$400. If your Mac doesn't have
composite or S-video out to display on your TV, that might be the only extra
issue you would need to address. It's also a lot easier and generally
cheaper to add more hard disk to your EyeTV Mac than it is to add bigger
disks to HDD Recorders.

Also, last time I checked, HDD recorders with a DVD burner were not
available in Australia with Digital TV tuners (unbelievably this was the
case for several years and may still be the case). This is a *major*
disadvantage as the difference between digital TV quality and analog is
equivalent to that between DVD and VHS.
