Thanks Bob. It plugs into the USB ports on the G5, or the dual USB
ports on the reverse of my 20" LCD. Also the USB ports on the other
machines,
NOT the keyboards. Yes the 2.5 was the master from the old G4
Powerbook. No Firewire shipped with the product, nor does it have any
FW ports.
So, still not visible anyway I try it.
See Malcolm's response about the dual USB's, this makes sense as I
had not considered this;
<The reason it has 2 USB connector is because a standard USB port
only delivers 500mA @ 5V and most hard drives need a wee bit more than
that. Some have an inline PS/2 connector but that doesn't do much
good when you're using a Mac so in this case they've used 2 USB ports
to operate
sans A/C.>
But so far nothing seems to work.
Thanks for both your responses anyway.

Hi all
I have just purchased a 'FIREWIRE & USB2.0' external drive case
from Digilife today. They said it has just come in, and retails
for $49.00.
A nice clean design and well packaged, complete with smart leather
protector if required. No manufactures logo or info!. The extended
title
states 'Aluminum construction, Excellent design'? So I guess this
is an American product?
In it I have installed my 10Gb 2.5 internal HD from my old defunct
G4 PowerBook, hoping to use it as an external storage. Problem is,
it is not
visible on either my G5, iBook, or iMac? it has no LED indicator
light. What's more the computers freeze when I plug this cable in.
Mouse
cursor is frozen, no key response. If I take it out, mouse moves
again. So there seems to be some conflict here. The blurb states it
runs on the
5v from the USB host, no power adapter came with it.
Where are you plugging the cable into on your Mac (s) ?
Needs to be port on the Mac .... not the keyboard as it has limited
power !
Also how is the hard drive set up ? Should be a Master , i think !
If it's firewire and USB , use a firewire connection , rather than
the USB
Two usb connectors might be like a USB hub ! ?
Bob
Sounds just like what I want .... except a powered unit would be
better than bus power .
The product shipped (as the computer interface) with a standard
digital camera connector that splits into a dual USB connection at
the other
end. Why two? when there are no instructions.
All Macs running 10.4.8
Does anyone know this product? if so any experience with it at
all? If this is a 'crock of ....' then I will take it back on
Tuesday.
Thanks in advance
Jon
