Hi Glenn, I have gone the same road as Lloyd, using a small Brother HL1430, the older model similar to the new 2040, and get my photos printed at the many camera shops around.
I have had 4 Epson inkjets which besides having cost a fortune in the genuine ink cartridges, have all stopped working. The latest one being a CX5300 which after only 3 cartridge runs stopped printing, and the repairer bluntly told me to buy a new printer instead!! I've heard that the Samsung CLP-300 is good, but having no experience of it cannot say for definite. But I guess the colour lasers in that price range would not be very good for photos, but excellent for general colour text printing. Good luck with our purchase.
