we use retrospect server on a Windows box to back up our macs to external hard drives, we've never had any problems recovering data back to macs.

Storring files in their native mac format can be an issue - if you wish to use any mac file naming conventions that break Windows file name rules you need to ( I belive) have apple file sharing service running on the server and have a separate disk for mac data

I'm about to build an XP based full tower with about 8 removable drives in it to act as the main storage unit for all the data around the house / that I bring home (because the hardware is cheap and space a plenty!)

Are there any downsides to backing up to / storing Mac data on the windows platform? I've never had issues in the past when sharing data on a mixed network.

Cheers, Antony.
