I was pretty impressed with the trial version of Reunion, but now I'm even more impressed with MacFamilyTree, which one of the respondents suggested I also look at. I couldn't make the Panther download from Version Tracker boot up. I tried another source and that also failed to boot. I eventually found the real thing at http://www.synium.de/products/index.html and it worked beautifully.
The demo of MacFamilyTree accepted the entire original GEDCOM file from my old PAF. (No save feature on the demo.) I comparison the Reunion demo has a size limit on test GEDCOM files. The importing of the GEDCOM file was a smoother process with MacFamilyTree. Nor did the software ask any ambiguous questions prior to the import. I actually liked the layout of MacFamilyTree better, and there seem to be some pretty clever features. Surely they must be even better in the Leopard version? This software is also half the price of Reunion. I tried a demo of Heredis as well, but I didn't like it as much as the other two. For me it looks like MacFamilyTree coming out on top - so far.
