You do not say whether you have done anything else to clear the
problem .
It is not unusual for the Mac to lose contact with the printer under
a number of different circumstances .
If you are in trouble it always pays to :-
Unplug and plug in again the USB connection to the Mac ,
Un power and re power the printer
reboot the Mac ,
and at worst , power down Mac and then start up
with printer freshly un powered and re powered.
Finally , deleting the printer from the Printer q and then
setting up afresh
are always things you can try to get it going .
I would put CUPS on the end of the list .
