I have recently converted from a Windows PC to my first Mac. I have
managed to successfully transfer all of the necessary files (eg
personal files, photos etc) from my PC to my Mac however I am now
having difficulty viewing one particular file format. I utilised the
"Microsoft Office Document Imaging" software on my PC to capture
scanned document images, which were saved with a .tif extension.
When I try to open these files on my Mac using Preview I get the
following message "Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a
file format that Preview doesn’t recognise."
In an attempt to determine if the files had been corrupted in the
transfer process, I transferred a number of the files back to my PC
and successfully opened them. The file sizes have remained unchanged.
I would appreciate any advice regarding the steps I need to take in
order to view these files on my Mac.
Hello David,
Preview should be able to open the tif files if they are not corrupted.
Preview can open and convert image files to BMP, JPEG 2000, JPEG, PDF,
PICT, PNG, SGI, TGA, and TIFF.
Try changing the extension from .tif to .tiff and see if they open.
Cheers,
Ronni
